Press for Night Air on the Midway-

"On first listen, Night Air on the Midway comes across as a relaxing swirl that seems perfectly suited for background music. But after a few spins it’s obvious that the songwriting requires more than a cursory listen — this is an album that revels in the sound of the earned experience. Mastermind John Isberg has an assured voice, tossing off lyrics in French, using auto-tuned vocals and somehow managing to never seem gimmicky. Isberg's delivery and lyrics in songs like “Etienne” suggest a deep longing for something lost. And the band follows with a subtlety that perfectly suits the album's unfulfilled yearning. Night Air on the Midway is spare, but never slight and it will reward your patience"

"Remember when Sufjan Stevens added auto-tune to that never-ending song at the end of The Age of Adz? It was silly, and kind of strange, and I didn’t understand auto-tune’s place in rock (or most anything else, actually). But it does sound really cool on Evil Tents’ Night Air on the Midway in a song like “Bury the Knife in Your Heart” (and quite a few others) amongst the reverb-y guitar, harmonica and steady beats. It’s somewhat of a super-band, an amalgamation of various CU projects like Withershins and The Firebird Band, and unlike most super bands that seem to fade away to the more successful original endeavors, Evil Tents is definitely on to something really cool." —AB

about

evil tents Champaign, Illinois

"This EP from John Isberg (Firebird Band, the Blackouts) couldn't have arrived at a more opportune time. The hushed acoustics and whispered vocals are clearly reminiscent of fall, and the ultra-sparse arrangements are a welcome contrast to the recent trend of highly-produced, all spaces filled recordings coming out of Champaign-Urbana."
